- Troubleshooting (Windows, Linux, Mac OS X versions) -
TSA logo
BUGS FIXED: (2014-06-08) The saved game dialog now checks to prevent the use of illegal filename characters for saved game titles. The Shield biochip has been fixed so that the game no longer quits upon entering the shuttle at the Morimoto Mars Colony. Other biochip bugs, such as not being able to access the mission biochips at TSA and AI hints at the Caldoria Heights rooftop observatory, have been fixed. For Linux, Mac OS X, and Windows users who prefer to use the keypad on extended keyboard configurations, alternate access to the inventory and biochip panels have been remapped to the 7 and 9 keys to avoid issues with legacy use of the clear & num-lock keys. Navigation input for Linux users of Ubuntu 13 or later have been fixed so that 180-degree "double turns" do not occur. All other keyboard inputs remain unchanged. See included documentation for additional details.

BUGS FIXED: (2014-03-18) Accessing the inventory tray and pause screen simultaneously no longer causes interface conflict. Returning from Mars mission without an optical memory biochip no longer triggers bug. Fixes minor A.I., audio and interface issues. Eliminates "semi-stuck" state if player explores WSC all the way to the end twice.

KNOWN BUGS: Some Windows users have reported that holding down the "E" key to trigger hidden easter eggs also disables the mouse button on certain PC configurations. An alternate input method would be to instead use the ENTER key (which behaves like the mouse button) with the "E" key when trying to activate easter eggs. Our programmers are looking into this for a more permament fix.

  • Note that these newer apps will NOT work with the 1997 CD-ROM discs..
  • If video playback falls out of sync and begins to lag behind the audio, your system may be below minimum requirements. It is highly recommended that you view the manual and README file for further information on optimizing system performance. (also read below for additional tips on improving video performance)

  • Older Intel Macs running OS X 10.5 or earlier may have trouble launching the game under 64-bit mode. Use the "Get Info" command on the Pegasus Prime OSX app to access the checkbox for running in 32-bit mode to avoid this compatibility issue.

  • For Windows Vista/7/8 users that find the game launching to a blank screen, try disabling desktop composition (aka. Aero). To do so, find the Pegasus Prime.exe game program and right-click to select Properties, then click the Compatibility tab and check "Disable desktop composition".

  • If you have trouble playing or taking screencaps of the game in full-screen mode or the screen becomes garbled, especially while launching or pausing to save or load, your graphics card may be incompatible or low on memory. Pressing ALT+ENTER to switch to windowed mode can help alleviate these problems. At least 128MB of VRAM is recommended for HD-size displays. You can also manually edit the game preferences so that "fullscreen=false" upon startup. The preferences file can be found at the following respective locations:
    > Linux - /home/[USERNAME]/.PegasusPrimerc   (~/.PegasusPrimerc)
    > Mac OS X - /Users/[USERNAME]/Library/Preferences/Pegasus Prime Preferences
    > WinVista/64 - C:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Roaming\Pegasus Prime\Pegasus Prime.ini
    > WinXP - C:\Documents and Settings\[USERNAME]\Application Data\Pegasus Prime\Pegasus Prime.ini

  • If you experience video "tearing" or slow video playback, you can also speed up graphics performance by manually entering a lower resolution into "last_fullscreen_mode_width" and "last_fullscreen_mode_height" in the preferences file described above. However, make sure you only enter dimensions supported by your video card.

  • On extended keyboard configurations in which the num lock and clear key occupy the same location on the keyboard, using the clear key to access the inventory panel may cause the game to become unresponsive (num lock has been enabled). Pressing the clear key again will help resume "stuck" gameplay. If you repeatedly experience this situation with your keyboard configuration, we recommend using the tilde (~) key instead to access the inventory panel, or press F8 to access the custom keymapper to reassign the key.

  • If audio sounds garbled during playback under Windows, make sure you have the latest drivers installed for your sound card. If the compatibility problem persists, please see ScummVM FAQ #16-17 on how to manually set the SDL_AUDIODRIVER variable to "waveout".

  • XP mode is not supported in Windows 7 or later because Virtual PC is unable to run OpenGL with acceleration.

  • If you experience problems loading a saved game file generated by ScummVM, it may be GZIP encoded and will need to be decompressed. Saved game files are cross-compatible between the different versions of the game, as long as the filename begins with "pegasus-" and ends with ".sav". Saved game files are stored in the following directories:
    > Linux - /home/[USERNAME]/.PegasusPrime/
    > Mac OS X - /Users/[USERNAME]/Library/Application Support/Pegasus Prime Saves/
    > WinVista/64 - C:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Roaming\Pegasus Prime\Saved Games\
    > WinXP - C:\Documents and Settings\[USERNAME]\Application Data\Pegasus Prime\Saved Games\

- Troubleshooting (DVD-ROM version for Mac OS 8.1 to 9.2.2) -
TSA logo
  • Download latest Pegasus Prime app for Mac OS 8/9 DVD-ROM v1.0.8 (2014-06-13)
Support added for 24-bit color (on systems that can display it at 640x480). Fixes shield biochip so game no longer crashes at the Mars shuttle. Eliminates "semi-stuck" state if player explores WSC all the way to the end twice. Fixes other minor A.I., audio and interface bugs. Will NOT work with the 1997 CD-ROM discs.
    KNOWN BUGS: None yet.

  • Note that the keyboard input configuration remains unchanged (unlike the Linux, Mac OS X and Windows versions).
  • If attempting to launch the game under Mac OS X's classic environment, first make sure Classic is already running from the menu bar or system preferences panel. This will avoid a resolution-switching problem in which the game may not display properly.

  • On systems running Mac OS 9 in the OS X Classic environment, the game may briefly stutter after transitions from full-screen cinematic playback (e.g. opening sequences, sub chase, etc.). This is a side-effect of how Mac OS X handles graphics from older PowerPC software, but this does not otherwise affect gameplay.

  • The hand cursor may disappear after clicking on an active object, such as a selection on an in-game screen or device. By simply moving the mouse around, the cursor should reappear.

  • On USB-equipped systems with compact keyboards (such as PowerBooks) that are running Mac OS 8 or 9, the game may freeze when attempting to bring up the biochip or inventory tray. Plugging in a full-size keyboard or playing the game from within the Mac OS X Classic environment will avoid this problem.

  • The classic Mac OS version of Pegasus Prime can open saved game files generated by newer versions of the game, as long as the creator type is pre-assigned to "JPPP" and file type is assigned to "PPG1" (or "PPG2", "PPG3", or "PPG4") with a utility such as FileType.

  • Users of the SheepShaver emulator may have problems accessing the inventory panel in Pegasus Prime because the upper-left tilde (`) key defaults to European configuration (§), even on North American keyboards. Download the keycodes fix Stuffit or ZIP file. Then, under SheepShaver's miscellaneous preferences, click "Use Raw Keycodes" and select the downloaded keycodes-tilde-fix file to properly remap the keys.

- Troubleshooting (1997 CD-ROM version for Mac OS 7.5 to 9.2.2) -
TSA logo
  • Download latest Pegasus Prime app for Mac OS 7.5 CD-ROM v1.0 (1997-04-21)
Users of Mac OS 8 or 9 do not require any special software updates to play. To avoid QuickTime version problems (described below), please do not use the installer from the CD-ROM and instead use the app from this Stuffit file to play the game. Pegasus Prime will also run fine under Mac OS X's Classic environment (version 10.2 to 10.4.11 recommended).
KNOWN BUGS: (unlikely to be fixed, since the CD-ROM version is no longer supported)

  • If the Shield biochip is active when entering the shuttle at the Morimoto Mars Colony, this will cause the game to crash. Make sure to select any other biochip before entering the shuttle.

  • Attempting to load a saved game during the middle of the Mars shuttle gameplay sequence will cause the system to crash.

  • After successfully completing the retinal scan in NORAD, the cursor may still display a zoom icon. Clicking the zoom icon again (instead of walking forward) will repeat the retinal scan sequence, but otherwise does not affect gameplay.

  • If the player already has an antidote during a return trip to the World Science Center, using it again will cause the player to be automatically moved in front of the replication device. However, normal gameplay can be resumed from this point.
  • Pegasus Prime's installer application on the original 1997 CD-ROM has been known to automatically overwrite any installed version of QuickTime, even newer ones, with the old 1997 version (2.5). If you used the aforementioned installer directly from the CD-ROM, you may need to reinstall a newer version of QuickTime (4.0.3 / 5.0.5 / 6.0.3). Mac OS 9 users can just use the Software Update control panel to download the latest compatible version of QuickTime directly from Apple.

  • Mac OS 7.5.x users experiencing problems with Pegasus Prime's automatic resolution switching can try downloading DrawSprocket version 1.1.2 and just replace the DrawSprocketLib in your system folder with the newer version (you don't even need to restart). Apple also offers DrawSprocket version 1.7.5 for users of Mac OS 8.1 to 9.2.2 (download from links at bottom of page instead of the right side, but it's only needed if your installed system does not already come with it).

  • You may experience delays or pauses during gameplay if the program is loading data from slower CD-ROM drives on computers below minimum requirements. It is highly recommended that you view the manual and README file for further information on optimizing system performance.
